Salem won their 4th straight game Monday beating Crestview 6-3 at Ray Reasbeck field. Junior starting pitcher Brock Young went 7 strong innings, striking out six Rebel batters scattering 6 hits and giving up 2 earned runs on Monday.
Crestview struck first when shortstop Carter Blakeman took Young over the left field fence in the second at bat of the game to stake the Rebels to an early 1 nothing lead.
The Quakers would answer in the bottom of the frame with 4 runs of their own after Junior Blaize Exline reached on an error to open the inning then stole second. He advanced to third on a base hit from fellow junior Darius Beck and after Beck swiped second, they were both sent home on a double by Senior Lane Rhodes. Rhodes would score two batters later when pitcher Brock Young helped his own cause with a double of his own. The Quakes would add one more run on a base hit by sophomore Jackson Johnson scoring Junior Corey Riesen.
That turned out to be all the runs Brock would need although Blakeman would hit his second home run of the game later in the third, the Rebels wouldn’t score again until the 7th inning. But that was after senior Nick Coletta added 2 more runs to the Quaker total on a double of his own.
Salem is now 4-1 on the year and 2-0 in the EBC as they head into their league matchup with The Aviators in Alliance tomorrow at 5 o’clock.
