The Quakers jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning but couldn’t muster much else against United’s starting pitcher Leyman as he went 6 and 1/3 innings shutting down Salem’s offense.

Josh Young started on the mound for Salem and went 6 innings, striking out 3 but didn’t get much help from their defense. The big inning for United was the third as they put 4 runs on the board and added another in the fourth and 2 more in the 5th.

Salem added 3 runs in the final inning but left the bases loaded when sophomore Lane Rhodes popped out to the first basemen to end the comeback threat.

Salem falls to 2-2 overall and 1-1 in the EBC. The Quakers are back in action Monday at Cene park as they take on Rootstown at 5 o’clock.
