With last year’s 21-0 defeat to WB fresh on their minds and last weeks poor performance at WB, the Quakers dedicated this game to the fight. Fight every pitch, every at bat, every play – all game long and live with the results. The Lady Quakers did just that! They battled every play with the 16-0 Warriors and went 7 innings for the first time in 3 years.

Elly Exline made a catch in left and threw out the runner tagging from third at the plate. She threw a beauty to Hayden Carner who stood tough at the plate. These two should get to know each other – they would make good friends. Meg Rossero dug out an errant throw to preserve an out at 1b. Freshmen Hannah Kelm showed her range at 2b for a key out.

Bailee Thorn, Jessica Slocum, Taylor Thorpe and Elly Exline all played small ball (bunts) well and reached base. Alyssa Laubacher and Meg Rossero each singled.

Jessica Slocum spent an extra hour working on her hitting/bunting and it paid off. She put down three perfect bunts including a two-strike bunt. That’s taking pride in your game!

Jordan Anderson hit a homerun for the Warriors. Kelsey Byers struck out 13 in the complete game shutout for the win.

Taylor Thorpe went the distance in the loss for Salem allowing 4 earned runs and striking out 5.

Salem plays tomorrow 5pm at home (Southeast Elementary) vs Louisville.

Salem earned the 5th seed of 11 schools in the North District Sectional bracket and a bye in first round. The Quakers will play May 11th at Poland in the sectional finals.
