The game cruised right along though five complete innings in scoreless matchup. Both teams only had one hit a piece as the game went into the 6th. Minerva would get 3 in the 6th and another in the 7th for the win.
Taylor Thorpe had to leave the game in the 6th after hurting her knee on a tag attempt at the plate. She was ok after the game with minor swelling. In the bottom of the 5th she struck out her fourth batter of the game, giving her a milestone of 200 ks on the season.
Bailee Thorn pitched in relief and gave up 0 earned runs while striking out 2.
(Senior) Alyssa Laubacher reached base in all three at bats with a single and two walks. She also stole 2 bases in the game. If that was Alyssa’s last game in a Quaker uniform – she went out with a bang and led right up to the end. Alyssa had won both the Senior Academic award and Lady Quaker award at last nights banquet. I’m going to miss you Alyssa – the girls are going to miss you!
Sydney Kline reached base in the game and the other Salem hit came from (Sophomore) Hayden Carner. Jessica Slocum made a running catch in right field and Bailee Thorn made a nice grab on a hot shot back to the mound late in the game.
(Senior) Lauren Frigyes struck out 11 in the 2-hit complete game win for Minerva. (Senior) A. Hume supplied the offense with two doubles.
It was a very successful season in which the Quakers came within one of the school record for wins. We had an awesome time during spring break in Tennessee. Lots of memories and this team laid the ground work for future success of the program. Such an awesome group of young ladies !!!
Can we play one more?!?!
