It looked like one of those low scoring games again with Salem coming up to bat, leading 1-0 in the bottom of the 4th. Salem had beaten United 2-1 and 2-0 in there last two matchups. Meg Rossero set the tone leading off the bottom of the 4th with a single. Alyssa Laubacher reached on an error to give Salem 2 runners on with no outs. Pinch hitter Alyssa Bricker entered the game and laid down a perfect sac bunt to put both runners in scoring position for the Quakers. Alyssa set the stage for Brooke Veglia to deliver the knockout punch with a single for two RBIs plating Laubacher and Rossero. Scorekeeper Lori Brooks just loves coloring in those boxes!

Elly Exline went 3-3 on the day. She would also score two runs and steal 4 bases. The “Meg” Rossero is beginning to get her bat sizzling and also went 3-3 on the evening. Taylor Thorpe had two bunt hits. Sydney Kline also singled. Hayden Carner had a sac bunt for an RBI.

Game ball went to Hayden Carner who battled through a bruised hand. Hayden made a great play from behind the plate on a would be bunt for the 2-3 putout. Hannah Kelm recovered another tipped ground ball (between 2b and 1b), kept her composure and beat the runner to 1st from her 2nd position for an out. Allyssa Laubacher (3b) also made a great attack on a bunt attempt and threw out the runner at 1b. The defensive play of the game though didn’t even result in an out for Salem. Bailee Thorn went all out on a foul ball and gave up her body by smashing into the fence. If the ball was in play – it would have been caught.

Taylor Thorpe pitched 7 innings, allowed 4 hits and struck out 10 to get the win.

Salem has a double header at Alliance tomorrow 10am & Noon. Our record is 12-6 on the season and the quest for the school record for wins in a season inches closer. Proud of these Lady Quakers for bouncing back today!

Just want to say that the umpires did a great job today….they always do when we win, lol.

Annie Paterson struck out 5 in the loss and tripled in the game for the Eagles.
