Morgan Dalton stepped to the plate for Canton South to lead off the bottom of the 8th. Salem had just scored a run in the top half of the inning to lead 6-5. Morgan had already homered and doubled in the game. She hit a screamer to right and Jess Slocum made an awesome shoestring catch on a would be triple. Other defensive gems were turned in by Bailee Thorn and Sydney Kline. Syd made a diving/twisting catch on a bloop and ended up in the infield from centerfield. Bailee threw out a runner on a great throw on a wild double pickle play. Brooke Veglia made a couple of really nice plays at 1st.
Taylor Thorpe singled, doubled, stole 2 bases and walked twice as well as scoring three times. Sydney Kline had a rbi double. Brooke Veglia, Alyssa Laubacher, Elly Exline and Hayden Carner each singled for the Quakers. It was a night for executed sacrifices. Brooke Veglia and Hayden Carner each hit an rbi sac fly. Jessica Slocum and Elly Exline laid down sac bunts to move runners that evidentially scored in the inning. These “not” so little things being executed perfectly are why Salem ended up with 1 more run for the “W”.
Taylor Thorpe went all 8 innings in the circle and struck out 10. She got the win pushing her season pitching record to 12-6. The 12 wins ties the Salem single season pitching wins record.
With the win Salem is now 13-10 on the season and one game shy of tieing the Salem single season win record.
Salem is home vs Minerva tomorrow for senior night.
Cierra Brown had a double and two singles for the Wildcats. As mentioned Morgan Dalton homered and doubled.
The ladies surprised the coaching staff with painting the back of our home dugout with the team slogan. You ladies are the best!
