Great pitching and defense were the keys to West Branch’s 6-0 win on Tuesday night in Beloit. As the snow fell down, the Quaker bats went silent mustering only two hits off of 4 different West Branch senior pitchers.
Freshman Lane Rhodes got the start for the Quakers and pitched admirably allowing only 5 hits and 1 earned run through 5 innings of work. The freshman deserved a better fate as his defense committed 7 errors behind him. A 2 run triple in the first inning by senior T.J. DeShields was the only hard hit ball of the day off Rhodes but it proved to be all the Warriors would need as the Quaker offense never really got it going in the cold temperatures.
The Quakers are now 3-1 (0-1) in the conference and will host these same Warriors in Salem at 5 o’clock tomorrow.
