Game Recap

Hannah Welling led off the game by smashing a double to the fence in right. She would score in that frame for what would be Ravenna’s only tally on the evening. Sydney Kline who had a sac bunt in the first came up to lead off the 4th for the Quakers. With the defense expecting a bunt, Syd smashed a ground ball through the 5-6 hole into left field. She would then steal second before Taylor Thorpe’s RBI single up the middle to tie the game at 1 a piece. Hannah Welling pitched a superb game striking out 16, keeping Salem’s bats in check until the 10th. The first batter due up in the 10th was Taylor Thorpe. As the defense played her straight up, Taylor showed bunt late for a hit by placing it perfectly down third. Next batter freshmen Hayden Carner did her job with the sac bunt to push Taylor to second. Emma Minamyer showed bunt allowing Taylor to steal third with ss late to the bag and overthrow on the attempt scored her. In the bottom of the 10th Jessica Slocum made an all out diving catch down the right field line saving a probable double! When I say all out – that’s an understatement. After the game she was asked how her elbow was in which she replied “my ribs are sore, but I caught the ball”. Sydney Kline would make an outstanding catch in right center for out two and an even better catch charging a linedrive to end the game. Slocum also took a base hit away in the 4th when she shot 1st from right. Bailee Thorn would be involved in nine outs defensively without an error. Katie Moore has continued to evolve into a great pitch caller behind the dish. The Quakers would have just one error on the evening.

Clara Janofa got the win with a compete game masterpiece in the circle. Ravenna’s batters were off balance all evening and were held scoreless the last 9 innings. In the 10 inning complete game just 2 hits were scored on Clara. That’s back to back wins for Clara this week.

Alyssa Laubacher, Bailee Thorn and Sydney Kline each had a hit for Salem. Thorpe added two singles.

Salem is at Lakeview tomorrow 4:30pm in the Northeast -District 2 finals.
